Bio

Stepa is an American nu-metal band formed in Newbury Park, California in 1998. Emerging from the late-90s Southern California alternative metal scene, Stepa became known for blending heavy groove-driven guitars with melodic songwriting and atmospheric textures.

While still in high school, the band caught the attention of major labels and briefly signed with Interscope Records before ultimately releasing their self-titled debut album in 2002 through Locomotive Music. Produced by Jay Baumgardner (Papa Roach, Evanescence, Seether, Godsmack), the record captured the energy of the early-2000s alternative metal movement while standing apart with its strong melodic sensibility and dynamic songwriting.

Featuring the singles “Aquarium” and “shine” the album went on to develop a cult following among fans of nu-metal and alternative metal.

Over time, Stepa’s music continued circulating through online communities and streaming platforms, introducing the band to a new generation of listeners while longtime fans rediscovered the record that helped define their early sound. Today the band’s catalog continues to gain traction across modern streaming platforms.

In 2025, Stepa released their sophomore album Icarus Flight, marking the band’s first full-length release since their debut and a powerful continuation of their signature melodic heaviness.

The current lineup features Blake Beckmann (vocals), Brendon Oates (guitar), Jay Frederick (guitar), Jessie Krapff (bass), and Ian Corabi (drums). Together the band continues to expand its sound, delivering massive guitar-driven songs that bridge the spirit of early-2000s alternative metal with a modern edge.

More than two decades after their debut, Stepa remains driven by the same energy that started it all—authentic songwriting, powerful live performances, and a sound that continues to connect with fans across generations.
